Investment Strategy

BIP was first floated on the AIM Market in the UK with the intention of investing in the manufacturing of biodiesel derived from palm oil ("Biodiesel Project"). Zurex, which had been issued with a manufacturing licence to produce biodiesel in Lahad Datu, Sabah, Malaysia, was acquired by BIP in November 2006 in line with its investment strategy.

Market conditions began to change rapidly and adversely against the whole biofuel industry and challenged the viability of the Biodiesel Project prior to its full implementation by Zurex. Due to the uncertainty created by market conditions, the Board of BIP decided to recommend a change to the investment strategy of BIP. At the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on 6 June 2008, BIP became an Investing Company.

The Group's current strategy is to proceed to set up a plant for the refining of palm oil in Lahad Datu, Sabah, Malaysia. and to maintain the flexibility to produce biodiesel should it become economically viable to do so.

In addition, the Group's strategy is to invest in, or acquire projects, assets, partnerships, joint ventures, businesses or companies (public or private) in Europe, Asia and the Middle East within the energy and utility sectors and their related infrastructures.
